NHL 17 Beta Feedback - send yours right now

    nhlgamer-nhl17-beta-feedback.jpg

    Hey NHL Gamers,

We hope you are enjoying the NHL 17 Beta so far! Over the course of the last days we have been giving out dozens of codes for both PS4 and Xbox One. So many, in fact, that we hadn't had the time to jump into the game as much as we wanted to!

We are very thankful for all the nice responses we received for getting you into the game, and we will of course continue to bring you lots of exciting stuff.

The concept behind releasing a beta is of course to iron out any game breaking flaws, annoying bugs and get the community's thoughts on how we like the new features that are new to the franchise. This is accomplished by exposing the beta to as many of us hockey fans as possible.

What we at NHLGamer.com want to do now is to get as much feedback from the community as possible and put together a list of the feedback to submit to the EA Sports NHL team in Vancouver.

In this case, we don't want anyone to feel stuck behind a language barrier, so feel free to send in your feedback in English, Finnish, French, German or Swedish and we'll go ahead to translate all of your input and compile a list of all relevant issues and improvement ideas.

Please use the comments below to voice your opinion and we will make sure you are being heard!

( Club and Playerlvl  30 in 3 days ? )

    The good:

    - Quality of connection is much better than NHL16 for me. Here's to hoping it will translate to the full game. The live ping thing is a welcome addition too.

    - Skating feels better.

    - Pokechecks being stronger is a good thing too.

    - The unlockable shit in EASHL is a nice feature.

    - The new player builds are not useless

    - The new layout looks nicer I guess...

    - Passes seem harder to make, which is also good.

    The bad:

    - The bug where games don't start.

    - Sometimes when you shoot from behind the goal line the human G will do sort of a 360° spin and backhand slap the puck into his own net. That's a little stupid.

    Overall I like the beta.

Great beta alot better than NHL 16 needs tweaking like the goalie reactions need tweaking goalies let in soft  shots in online vs and eashl goalies need some tweaks on reaction refs make soft calls on penalties tweaks on player acceleration

    Overall great beta

After we had played 30 games, then the games started to freeze all the time.

We made a new club and didn't put any of the new stuff on, now from 25 games only 2 or 3 games have crashed.

Can players be made to be smarter with their sticks on the blue line? I feel like a lot offsides penalties shouldn't happen. Overall NHL 17 seems like it's going to be a great game.

Switching player to player is broken. I want it switch defender and i had to go through 3-4 players, and then goes defender. Remove X button, because you can protect the puck with right stick. Then load down game with something (example Hd videos) and lag switchers. I had a suggestion for that, when ping goes too up, player will lose connection. Why hybrid controls don´t have strategies? Gamepad is without anything left side of controller. Why net battles are with button? NHL Legacy had net battles without button and they work much more better. Only good thing is hitting, DON´T CHANGE HITTING!!!

Atmosphere is.. There is no atmosphere in game! Make the game that remind NHL 14 and NHL Legacy, they were two good games in series. Overall i don`t like beta, because there is no fun anymore.

Full EASHL feedback only from me (played 2 or 3 1v1 games)

    Pros

Lot of physics work lot better, puck moves around and isn't anymore glued to sticks. Hitting more realistic, you don't anymore need the massive hit to make puck go loose. Overall gameplay is more sim like compared previous iterations

    -Physics

    -Puck "reaction"

    -Pickups (most of the time)

    -Goalie movement

    -Customisation

    Cons

-Game freeze bug (apparently has something to do with team customisation) Removing logos from jerseys seemed to work

-Goalie save animation triggers; had lot of goals scored because game triggered some weird save animation and just let the goal being scored. (This is known issue by devs if you look it up on official forums) P.S. Everyday I'm sitting down.

-Shot accuracy on close slot; players seem to be godlike with getting pucks top shelf under pressure within 2m from net. Slapshots need to be tuned down, had multiple slapshots going off like sniper with low shot accuracy builds while being stopped on ice.

-Goalie no mask shot save ability way down, I think this is combination of player supershot and animation trigger issues.

-Way too much goalie interference. Opponent could just run over you as much as they wanted. It seemed that lot of camera reviews didn't just trigger. This is just unacceptable if you compare modern hockey and NHL how easily referees go to the phone.

    Overall

This has lot of goalie pointers because I mainly goaltended on beta. This definitely made me go G for next NHL. It felt good and most of time I felt that goals scored on me were either personal mistakes or just opponent playing me out.

Bugs weren't horrible and most of them are already being reviewed by devs but I hope that freeze issue is fixed ASAP but that wouldn't be as much a gamebreaker as last years input lag was. It doesn't make the game unplayable, it just takes nice visual add out if not fixed.

I'm exicited for new NHL, probably one of the best iterations since 11 or 12. Lot of changed but it is more like polishing good base what 16 was.

    eashl kokemukset

    +parempi kuin nhl16

    +liikkuvuus

Paljon muutakin positiivista mutta ehkä enemmän jäi mieleen mitä jäin kaipaamaan.

-Moni asia pelissä on tosi vaikeaa. Esim. Syötöt vaikea saada perille, maalinteko vaikeaa, botit voittaa kaikessa.

I just wanted to submit some feedback on the Beta from a goalie standpoint (I started playing in NHL 16 and found that game to be VERY buggy from the goalie position) and have to say I'm thoroughly impressed so far. Here is my list of pros and cons:

    Pros:

    - In NHL16 the goalie post to post was VERY glitchy. Sometimes you would hug a post, and attempt to slide to the other only to have your goalie do a 360, or move to the top of the crease in the post hugging position. I have to say that this is no longer the case. I found the post play very smooth, and they even slide at a decent rate allowing you to defend against those guys who reverse direction behind the net constantly.

    - Nicer goalie movement (for the most part). If you watch the computer goalies, they can move around their crease with relative ease and it looks so smooth. The player goalie needs to be inched across and it's almost like they're moving from block to block, not sliding seamlessly. It is definitely much better than 16 however, you can keep yourself in good position with relative ease.

    - Desperation saves work very nicely. I have to say that in NHL16 if you played against a team who was able to slide passes across the crease in front of you, you stood virtually no chance of reaching the puck. I've played roughly 60 games between drop ins and team play, and have to say that the goalies are actually MUCH more competitive against this type of play. It's a nice change, especially when you have defencemen who refuse to take the pass away.

    - The overall feel of being a goalie is much nicer in NHL17, you can actually have a bit of confidence knowing that you're going to be making that save if you are able to position yourself properly and read plays.

    Cons:

    - Falling on your arse and being unable to stand up easily. This bug is by far the worst for a goalie in my opinion. Sometimes your goalie will stretch out for a save and end up falling backwards onto his butt, and he's stuck. He doesn't shuffle, he doesn't roll to the side, he doesn't do anything. You have to push the "A" button as though you're going to skate out of the crease in order to get him to stand. This is a big problem if you're busy watching the play in front of you after making a save, and don't notice you've fallen into this position and can't react to a rebound. It would be nice if you could maybe have him roll onto his side by moving your left thumbstick at least. This way you can get up and back into the play.

    - Getting behind the net is still a challenge, you need to make quite a sweeping arc outside of your crease to actually get behind the net, otherwise you just run into the post and you're stuck leaving yourself vulnerable.

    - Goalie interference calls are still a nuisance. I know it often works in my advantage if a player lightly bumps me and they score around me, but sometimes it feels as though if the wind blows just right they'll get a penalty. It's frustrating for the players I'm sure, and it's really frustrating watching it happen to your team from the other end of the ice. Maybe there's a way to change the amount of contact necessary for a penalty?

    - I had one instance where my goalie was skating out of the crease and got frozen mid-stride. I couldn't turn, lay down, dive, anything. All I could do was hold "A" and continue skating forward until a whistle happened. Not sure why this was, and it only happened once, but it sucked. I have seen forwards freeze and drift into the boards on occasion and not be able to move as well.

    - Artificial-Retardation. The computer players are not smart, not even a little. If a player calls for a pass from a D-man behind my net, instead of wrapping it up the boards like a real player would, they fire it across my crease, off my pads, and sometimes to the opponent. As well, if a computer defenceman is facing a 2-on-1, they will never take away the pass like a smart D-man would, they simply hover in the center of the ice, and sometimes crash into me! That's a little ridiculous. You can't even adjust team strategies to help with this. It would be nice to see computer D who actually help out, not hinder a team.

    The Game In General

I'm purely a goaltender in the NHL games now, and I have to say I LOVE it. This game is a major step forward in comparison to NHL16.

    - The arena customization is awesome, I think it'll be a hit when the full game launches, I love playing in the small "industrial" rinks like I grew up playing in.

    - The dressing room that you enter following a game with your team is a fantastic idea, making it much easier to friend and continue playing with solid linemates.

    - Being able to pre-select a position prior to launching an EASHL game is very nice, but you should add a "No Preference" option so if you don't really care you can find a game anyway. Because perhaps you want to play goalie, but can't find a game that needs one, but if you joined a game with no preference and a goalie quit the lobby, you could easily grab that spot, saving time.

    - The commentators, PLEASE CHANGE THEM. This is 3 or 4 years (maybe wrong?) with the same ones. Could we please get some new commentary as this just feels like recycled trash. It would help make the game feel more like an upgrade instead of a roster change as some people call it.

I feel like the game is more fluid, there is no longer a glitch where if you join a drop-in game you need to pause or else the game freezes (THANK YOU!), and as I mentioned before, you can be confident as a goalie that most goals that do get by are usually a very good tip/deflection, you were out of position, or the shooter out-played you. I can't speak for the new player classes as I have yet to play a game out of the net, but I've heard great things.

Overall I am very excited for the full release, and have to say thank you for the many upgrades we've seen so far.

    See you on the ice!

EA should add one more thing for human goalies in EASHL: when there are penalty coming or team wants to get even with 6-players, the sixth player should be human (controlled by goalie), no brainless bot. After that taking the goalie to the bench will be helpful. Now it's almost useless. That shouldn't be too hard to realise because in be a pro it's working at the moment in NHL 16.

I don't see any point in playing as a goalie in NHL17 if it's made as easy as it was in beta. I mean the goals that were made, there were typically no way goalie could have saved them or those could have been saved only with luck. Big part of the goals were deflections, breakthroughts or caused by that goalie wasn't able to see the puck. The problem will be that playing as a goalie isn't so much about skill anymore and it will become so easy that a player who hasn't plaid as a goalie before can become a top goalie with just one day of practice. Is that a positive or a negative thing? Maybe it will make more teams to play 6s if everybody can learn to play G faster or will it just be more difficult to find a goalie that wants to play only that position? And yes, probably most of us were able to see goals scored by goalies' mistakes there but the thing is that there were lots of changes made and all the goalies were probably testing new player types and different kind of playing styles but when the game is not new anymore we won't see those mistakes anymore, almost all the goals will be scored in a way there is no way to make a save. Another thing what I'm afraid off is that if goalies are easier to control, maybe later once players have learnt to defend better with the new improved defence system there will be more difficulties to score goals. But otherwise I was happy about the beta, I like the defence and offence improvements but I just wanted to post my thoughts about the goalie system which was small disappointment for me, still knowing that it was just a beta.
