  1. Sportsgamers, We present you a new iteration of the Western European Championship League for your summer, pre-august competition with your fellow neighbors, this time with a little extra. The idea of the league will be to mantain the WECL 3 format, with similar (we hope better for everyone) dates and rules. This time, we will be opening up 5 spots for teams from foreign regions that have participated and NOT promoted from ECL Neo in ’23 – Spring. In order to keep the league played in the central server, these 5 teams can only come from the GCL or the CSCL, so basically German, Czech and Slovakian teams competing in ECL Neo. The idea is to serve these 5 spots as first come - first serve, but in order to ensure variety between GCL and CSCL, we may manually pick the teams that make the cut. The dates we're currently thinking of are a start around June 21st when the ECL Pro ends, with our finals happening right before august. Besides the 5 open spots to fill and spice up the league, our foreign player rules will be unchanged from a, we believe, successful set of maximum 2 foreign* players, out of which none have competed in ECL '23 Elite - Winter or Spring. The default server for WECL games will continue to be the central server, unless both teams agree to play in a different one. Your team can not be forced (by your opponent) to play in a different server than central. At the moment we want this league to remain free of license cost. And as such, we will offer no prize pool either. In the next weeks we will finalize the calendar. As mentioned, we want the league to finish no later than July. *Am I a foreign player to the WECL? Players from: Sweden, Finland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Russia are foreign to the WECL. A maximum of 2 players from these countries, that have not participated in ECL '23 Elite - Winter or Spring, can be registered for each team. 🏆WECL 3 champions: Nottingham Panthers HC 🤴WECL 3 top point scorer: AdriF_23 (82) 🎯WECL 3 top goal scorer: AdriF_23 (40) ⭐WECL 3 top point scorer (Playoffs): MartindalexC (46) See all stats in league archive->
  2. Calendar is now up and competition can begin. There's a small error in the standings table with a solid line after 4th, meant to be after 8th qualified teams. 8 teams make the playoffs. Good luck all! 😊
  3. Format and dates now decided. Tournament is set to start in 2 days time. WECL 3 Rules.pdf
  4. Hello, no, at most you're allowed 2 foreign players in the roster/ice, and none (foreign) that played ECL Elite in NHL 22. Local players can play no matter what. Cheers!
  5. Bonjour! ¡Hola! Let’s play? With us closing in on the playoffs in most of the ECL divisions and the spring sun heating up the weather outside, we feel the time has come to announce the continuation of the WECL with it's third season. A league that is still yet to be won by a Western European team - as the season 1 champions were Latvian and the season 2 champs were Danish. With the immense growth of our community perhaps now is the time for some Spanish, French or British representation to make a splash? Maybe even a surprise from Italy or the Netherlands? WECL 3 is set to start on June 6th with signups open until Sunday, June 5th 23:59 CEST, so make sure to get your team together and sign up! SIGN UP FOR WECL SEASON 3 HERE! The entire WECL Season 3 rulebook can be found in the league forum here! - Please scroll down for the most recent version. Season schedule The league will start on June 6th and the finals are expected to be played in late July. Eligibility As a regional league, the WECL has three officially recognized countries (ES, FR and UK). However, teams based in countries that are not represented in the current (ongoing or not) SportsGamer regional leagues (CSCL, GCL, RCL, FCL and SCL) are also able to take part. Teams from the following countries are eligible for the WECL and their players don’t count against the foreign player cap: Albania Andorra Armenia Austria Azerbaijan Belarus Belgium Bosnia and Herzegovina Bulgaria Croatia Cyprus Denmark Estonia France Georgia Greece Hungary Iceland Ireland Italy Kazakhstan Kosovo Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Macedonia Malta Moldova Monaco Montenegro Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania San Marino Serbia Slovenia Spain Switzerland Turkey Ukraine UK Vatican City Teams from the following countries are already eligible for another regional league and cannot sign teams up, players will also count against the foreign player cap: Czech Republic Slovakia Germany Russia Finland Sweden Players from these countries are counted against a limit of 2 foreign players on the roster. English is considered the only official language of the WECL and all communications sent out regarding the Championship, or exchanged with the LA will be in this language. Users are free, however, to use English, French or Spanish in the league’s own sub-forum. Additionally, in order to better facilitate the opportunities for local player to naturally grow, the WECL also enforces a skill cap, meaning that foreign players with ECL Elite status will not be able to participate in the league. ECL Elite status is determined by having represented an Elite team in either ECL '22 Winter or ECL '22 Spring. Exceptions The WECL aims to be open to any teams that don’t feel represented in other regional leagues. Any requests for an exception to the rules has to be made using the support tool. As stated in the beginning, please familiarize yourself with our rulebook as the above fragments are only a tiny part of the entire ruleset. Hoping for an enjoyable tournament for everyone involved, I invite you to participate in the third season of the WECL! Many thanks and see you on the ice!
  6. Work on the page is still underway. Signup period will be extended 1 week until the 5th of June.
  7. Update: some WECL 3 links are broken at the minute. Hopefully it's fixed soon along with a news article
  8. The only limitation is at maximum 2 foreign players on the roster who didn't play ECL '22 Elite Winter or Spring. These 2 players can be on the ice at the same time. Foreign players that participated in ECL 22 Elite Winter or Spring can't be signed up. Cheers!
  9. Welcome back everyone to another WECL. We have a simple rulebook finished and feel ready to go. The spirit of the championship remains intact, while reinforcing the rules that made it cool originally. We're back to maximum 2 non-elite foreign players, games on the central server and we're also counting Swiss and Austrian players and teams as local this time. The tournament is set to start on May 30th, and the playoffs will take place in July. August won't be used for competition. The pace of the league will still be 2 games per week. 10. This is the first version of the WECL 3 rules. Some areas are still TBD and will be updated whenever possible. Changes have been made to rules: The idea is to open signups during May and start right after the IIHF World Championships on the 29th. The finals will be mid or late july. WECL 3 Rules.pdf
  11. Players, It's time to start giving thought and shape to the upcoming WECL 3. Due to the available windows, the plan is to have a single season of the WECL for NHL 22 in the Summer, specifically in June when the ECL Spring Pro playoffs are planned to start. Regarding the league itself and how it's going to be, the plan is to go more Western this time, with changes to at least 2 core rules, server selection and foreign player rules. Firstly, the default server for games will be the central server, period. If both teams agree to play in the North server they can do it, if not, both games will have to be played on the central server. The reason for this approach is to make the league more appealing to the region it is targeted for. Second, the foreign player rules were over-stretched for the WECL 2 and this caused some controversial squads to participate. We feel like maximum 2 foreign players in the roster is the sweet spot, and that's what we will go back to. Also no foreign ECL '22 Winter or Spring Elite players will be able to participate. The game version will be PS4 one for commodity reasons. Expect the first Rulebook drafts, which as always you can chip in on, to start coming around April. With nothing more to add I hope you're thrilled to compete against your neighbours soon Claudi - WECL
  12. Personally I don't see that much of a benefit to be gained to re-work the schedules and competition format. Might be an odd example but some football leagues in south america do have a champion for the "apertura" and a champion for the "clausura", they basically play 2 seasons each year.
  13. NHLGamers, Despite the uncertainity we had about playing a tournament mostly during August, the response from all the signed up teams has been perfect. No team had to be disqualified and we were so close to 100% games played, so personally I'd like to use this thread to say thanks to all the teams who gave it all on the ice, and to congratulate the unbeaten Herlev Eagles for their maiden WECL title. In the rules thread you can find the Division 1 ranking updated with the Points/Game stat for every team that's taken part in our league so far, with the 'tickets' awarded after Inaugural Season and this ranking, we're crossing fingers that we can compose a more competitive league with top and bottom divisions for next season. Our goal is to take a deep look at how each season goes and continue evolving leaving no team behind or their opinions unheard, so as always I encourage you to share your thoughts specially about what can be improved in the future, either publicly or privately. Reading into the Season 2 results, it's clear Herlev Eagles were a tier above everyone else. The rules we designed for teams to be able to complete their rosters for the summer months with foreign talent have also allowed, to such extent, this super team to dominate both their group and the playoffs, so clearly our rulebook still needs work. From early discussions among the staff, going back to 2 foreign players per team and no (foreign) ECL Elite players is what's currently on the table, with the possibility that all games are played on the central server, unless both teams agree to play on the north one. We're aiming for the next tournament to happen on PS5 next february/march after ECL 13. Until then, we would like to wish everyone good luck in their ECL seasons. We'll be cheering for you. See you next spring Claudi - WECL
  14. The Division 1 ranking mentioned in the rulebook will be updated with the Season 2 regular season results as follows: Herlev Eagles (2) Dynamo Dragons (2) Spartiates X MCES (1.78) Latvian Warriors (1.78) Silver Sword Griffins (1.72) Remparts de Tours eSport 2 (1.64) Remparts de Tours eSport (1.56) Remparts Tours III (1.5) Granada Grizzlies (1.5) Great British Lions (1.5) Stick Magnético (1.5) Spartiates X MCES II (1.43) Latvian Esports (1.38) Epinal HC Esport (1.19) Ambri eSports (1.07) Sesku Patversme (1) Vipers Montpellier esport (1) Pirates eSports (0.81) Boxers Bordeaux (0.72) Occitania HC (0.64) Annecy Hockey eSport (0.61) French Rookies (0.5) MVP Players (0.33) Epinal HC Esport II (0.14) GlasgowClan (0.14) Polish Patriots (0.07) Teams in bold earned division 1 tickets for S3 in Season 1. In the event of free spots in the top division, this ranking will determine which teams also get selected.
  15. The first playoff round is complete and it's now an all-Group B affair in the semi finals. Herlev Eagles - Latvian Warriors Silver Sword Griffins - Remparts Tours III The matchups will soon be posted in the site. Best of luck!
  16. The regular season is now over and the playoffs can begin. Remparts Tours 2 vs Latvian Warriors Granada Grizzlies vs Remparts Tours III Great British Lions vs Silver Sword Griffins Stick Magnetico vs Herlev Eagles These are the BO7 first round matchups that should pop on the site at some point today. Regards.
  17. Reminder that the transfer deadline date is by the end of sunday, make any additions to your rosters before then
  18. Team registration deadline passed and all 16 teams will start the competition. The following rules have been updated: 3.6 Current Exceptions Ambri eSports: (Switzerland) Roster exception given due to it being a new team and no GCL competition currently going on. 7.1 General The WECL Season 2 format will be 16 teams split in groups A and B. Regular season play will consist of home and away against every group opponent. The implementation of a top and bottom division has been at least pushed to Season 3. 7.3 Playoffs Out of the participating teams, 4 teams per group will make the playoffs. The teams will be seeded as 1-4 and 2-3 cross-group. Home and Away is to be alternated after every game, with the best seeded team starting at home and all series being best-of-7. 7.5 Division 1 ranking Due to the many changes to the teams participating, the tickets system has been re-worked into a ranking to determine potential division 1 spots. While the tickets earned last season will still grant a team a potential top division spot in Season 3, the ranking system ensures the best are selected next. This ranking is entirely based on the Points/Game stat of your team, and the results in Season 2 can only improve your record, if it’s worse than on the Inaugural Season, it’s discarded and your score from Inaugural Season is the only taken into account for the ranking. The current ranking is: Dynamo Dragons (2), Spartiates X MCES (1.78), Latvian Warriors (1.78), Silver Sword Griffins (1.72), Remparts de Tours eSport (1.56), Stick Magnético (1.39), Latvian Esports (1.38), Remparts de Tours eSport 2 (1.22), Epinal HC Esport (1.19), Granada Grizzlies (1.06), Sesku Patversme (1), Vipers Montpellier esport (1), Pirates eSports (0.81), Boxers Bordeaux (0.72), Annecy Hockey eSport (0.61), French Rookies (0.5), MVP Players (0.33), Occitania HC (0.31), Polish Patriots (0). Teams in bold earned division 1 tickets for S3. In the event of free spots in the top division, this ranking after season 2 will determine which teams also get selected. The following dates are now confirmed for the tournament: 8.3 End of Regular Season All regular season games in WECL must have been played and reported by September 5th 23:59 CET. 8.4 Playoff Schedule All games in playoff series' must be finished as listed below: • Quarterfinals (BO7): Sept 6th-Sept 12th • Semifinals (BO7): Sept 13th-Sept 19th • Finals (BO7): Sept 20th-Sept 26th 11.1 Transfer Deadline The deadline for transfers is set to 23:59 CE(S)T, on August 29th. WECL S2 Rules v3.pdf
  19. Signups will close at midnight tonight. Almost all teams have rosters up to standards and within the allowed limits. From NHLGamer right now we won't go as far as asking for ID cards or passports. We are not policemen. We trust captains understand and adhere to the rulebook. If you are suspicious that a team might be exploiting the rules, please let us know via the support section and we will try to investigate it. The rulebook and it's thread will soon be updated with the final format and the trade deadline date, along with the exception granted to Swiss team Ambri eSports. The 16 current teams are a bit short of the minimum for a top and bottom division competition, but too many for a single group league. Instead we will simply split the table into groups A and B like on our inaugural season. Here we go
  20. Hi all, the signups will close by the end of Wednesday the 28th then we'll finish up the format and rulebook. Likely a single group of teams, not 2 divisions as we initially purposed.
  21. Hi mates, The signups have now been open for around a week and will be until about July 28th. So far we haven't seen many teams register, but we're optimistic as always that we can have the adequate amount of signups to run something. The limitations we are facing is the still unknown release date for NHL 22 which offers 2 possibilities, mid-october release like last year or them going back to mid september. The scenario drawn for this season is running on a belief that october will be the month, but if it's back to september, as it stands, we don't have a plan B and structural changes to the season schedule could occur. We're waiting on July 22nd's EA Play to confirm this data. Regarding playing during august, we know this is a big question mark for a handful of teams. This is why we brought the tickets system for teams that want to skip season 2 but remain at a potential top division in S3. On the other hand, our intention is to keep a laid back pace of gamedays, so in the event that you're going to be unable to play for 2 weeks, that will be just 4 gamedays to spread around the rest of the regular season. The rulebook only contains a hard deadline for games to be reported by the end of regular season on September 5th, so specially for this season we encourage teams to draw their own calendar if they're shorthanded for 1-2 weeks due to holidays. NHLGamer will still create a base schedule for all teams. We are still looking forward for more feedback regarding anything you would change in the league Thank you. C
  22. NHLGamers, As another ECL season enters it’s late stages, it’s time for our most extensive regional league to come into play for a second season. Teams from France, Latvia and Spain among others find their home in the Western European Championship League, with Latvian Silver Sword Griffins being the current champions after their sublime display over arguably favorites Grenoble BDL. Our goal is that the WECL keeps welcoming new countries and clubs in and we expect to ease the entry of new teams by offering a promotion and relegation system for Season 2, meaning new teams in won’t have to face the recent champions so quickly and can work their way up just like in the ECL. We’re missing our friends from UK, Italy, Portugal and more teams from not so well represented countries, so it’s our wish to encourage these great teams to come and compete in a league with a wide range of skill level like the WECL. Remember that your team shouldn’t compete in the WECL if it’s German, Russian, Czech, Slovakian, Finnish or Swedish as these leagues already exist within NHLGamer, but WECL teams can add up to 3 players from these countries, while the skill cap allows for 1 ECL 12 – Elite player to be signed on the top division, but no ECL 12 Pro or Elite foreign players in Division 2. Local players are exempt from any skill cap limitation. The entire WECL Season 2 rulebook can be found in the league forum here! - Please scroll down for the most recent version. Division 1 tickets earned based on play in season 1, which can be redeemed in either season 2 or 3 of the WECL: Spartiates X MCES, Latvian Warriors, Silver Sword Griffins, Hoko Gang, Dynamo Dragons, Remparts de Tours, Latvian Esports, Remparts de Tours 2, Epinal HC Esport, Granada Grizzlies, Sesku Patversme, Vipers Montpellier. Depending on the number of spots that come free, the following teams in order will be placed in the top division despite not having earned a ticket: Pirates Esports, Boxers Bordeaux, Annecy Hockey eSport, French Rookies, MVP Players, Occitania HC, Polish Patriots. SIGN UP FOR THE WECL HERE! Season schedule The tournament will start on August 2nd and the finals are expected to end on September 26th just in time for NHL 22 to hit the shelves. Teams from the following countries are eligible for the WECL and their players don’t count against the foreign player cap: Albania Andorra Armenia Azerbaijan Belarus Belgium Bosnia and Herzegovina Bulgaria Croatia Cyprus Denmark Estonia France Georgia Greece Hungary Iceland Ireland Italy Kazakhstan Kosovo Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Macedonia Malta Moldova Monaco Montenegro Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania San Marino Serbia Slovenia Spain Turkey Ukraine UK Vatican City Teams from the following countries are already eligible for another regional league and cannot sign teams up, players will also count against the foreign player cap: Czech Republic Slovakia Germany Austria Switzerland Russia Finland Sweden Players from these countries are counted against a limit of 3 foreign players on the roster. English is considered the only official language of the WECL and all communications sent out regarding the Championship, or exchanged with the LA will be in this language. Users are free, however, to use English, French or Spanish in the league’s own sub-forum. Skill cap Division 1 of the Season 2 WECL allows for a total of three (3) foreign players on a teams roster, but only one (1) player with ECL Elite experience in ECL 12 due to the skill cap limitation. Division 2 of the Season 2 WECL allows for a total of three (3) foreign players on a teams roster, but no players with ECL Elite or ECL Pro experience from ECL 12 due to the skill cap limitation. All local players are exempt from the skill cap limitation. Exceptions Teams can be granted an exceptional status for example if half of their roster is from a foreign country by nature and it is clear that the team has competed in the same formation for an extended period of time. For example a team that is half French and half Swiss could apply for such an exception if they can prove that they have stuck with the formation in question for a longer time. An exception can be handed out in such situation if explained properly to the LA beforehand. Additionally, teams from regions not covered can also contact the LA for an exception (IE, teams from North Africa). We will not be shy about granting exceptions to teams unable to compete in other regional leagues, so please reach out to our support if you might have any questions. As stated in the beginning, please familiarize yourself with our rulebook as the above fragments are only a tiny part of the entire ruleset. Hoping for an enjoyable tournament for everyone involved, I invite you to participate in the inaugural season of the WECL! Many thanks and see you on the ice!
